Bhutan Development Bank Limited (BDB) was incorporated in 1988 under the command of His Majesty the Fourth King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, with assistance from the Asian Development Bank, to function as a development financial institution. It is registered as a company under the Companies Act and licensed under the Financial Institutions Act. BDB focuses on providing financial services to rural farmers and has taken responsibility for the nation-wide credit program. It also provides term finance and working capital for industrial and agro-based ventures. BDB operates through its head office in Thimphu, three regional offices, 34 branch offices, 12 Geog field offices, and 5 extension offices. The Royal Government of Bhutan owns 95.67% of its paid-up share capital. The main objective of BDB is to promote agricultural, industrial, and commercial development in Bhutan.
